UKHSA advises travellers to:
- Avoid wild animals
- Avoid stray dogs and cats
- Avoid touching or feeding animals
- Keep children away from unfamiliar animals
- Be particularly careful during outdoor activities
- Know where to obtain medical help at your destination
Animals infected with rabies may not always look obviously ill, so appearance alone should not be used to judge whether an animal is safe.
Before travelling, check the rabies risk for your destination and discuss vaccination with a travel health professional if appropriate.
