What materials are commonly used in the manufacturing of drainage cells, and what features make them durable for long-term drainage and waterproofing applications?

Drainage cells are primarily manufactured from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polypropylene (PP), both of which are highly durable engineering plastics known for their excellent mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and long service life. HDPE is particularly popular because it combines lightweight construction with high compressive strength, enabling drainage cells to support substantial loads without collapsing or deforming. These materials are resistant to moisture, corrosion, chemicals, fungi, bacteria, and biological degradation, making them ideal for underground and permanently wet environments. Many drainage cells are also UV stabilized to withstand temporary sunlight exposure during construction. Their open-core structure provides a high void ratio, allowing rapid water movement while maintaining structural integrity. Drainage cells are often used with non-woven geotextile fabrics that filter fine soil particles while allowing water to pass freely. This combination prevents clogging and ensures reliable drainage performance over many years with minimal maintenance.
